Compiere and OpenBravo expand functionality of the "open" ERP

Compiere and OpenBravo companies practically at the same time announced a release of new versions of the ERP systems with the dug-out source code - Compiere 3.3 and Openbravo 2.50. Both new versions have modular architecture that allows third-party developers (partners) and clients to create own additions to standard solutions.
The Compiere company announced availability of the new version of the ERP system of Compiere 3.3 developed on the platform open source. Access to a system is provided by means of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud web service (Amazon EC2). By estimates of the developer, Compiere Cloud Edition which is released at the beginning of March of the current year will allow to save up to 80% of cost of the ERP system due to expense reduction on IT infrastructure and also due to lack of initial costs on hardware and the software. As it was already reported earlier, the ERP system is delivered with a full range of the supporting technologies certified by Compiere and contains the operating system, the application server and DBMS which can be quickly unrolled on Amazon EC2.
Enhanced capabilities of Compiere 3.3 include additional opportunities on scalability and performance improvement, necessary for the large companies; the new intuitive interface from the navigation simplified by a system for input of large volumes of data. Besides, a system contains the new master of reports and also 65 built-in reports covering the sphere of sales, finance and purchases.
The OpenBravo company also released the beta of the ERP system open source of Openbravo 2.50. Attracted Saras (Manel Sarasa), CEO Openbravo, called this release "crucial", "turning point" for the company. The new version of a system has modular architecture that allows to develop new features in addition to already available in ERP application "core". Clients have an opportunity to develop own modules and also to use the functionality created by other developers.
Openbravo 2.50 supports also autosave functions, in it support of the companies having a difficult organization structure is expanded, functions of printing of documents and support of e-mail are improved.
Technical improvements include new Java the layer of data access (data access layer, DAL) implemented as a superstructure over a relational data model. It allows developers, using Java, to expand functionality of the ERP system.
