Dell was created by the designer of private "cloud"

Dell created a set from the equipment, the software and services which can be used by the companies for deployment of own infrastructure-as-service (IaaS). The "cloud" software of OpenStack is the cornerstone.

The company also released the software with the open code called Crowbar which should help the organizations with deployment of their own OpenStack configurations on the equipment of Dell.

"Cloud" set includes the complete set of the software of OpenStack working for Linux Ubuntu 10.10 set on the Dell PowerEdge C servers. Crowbar is also included in a packet. Dell and Rackspace Cloud Builders provide services of consultation, and Dell offers reference architecture or the plan to help the organizations with development of own "clouds". "With development of clients we will be able to add to a system and other elements", - Joseph George, the head of cloud marketing of Dell company told.

The software of Crowbar which Dell prepared under Apache 2.0 has the open license and allows to automate installation and the OpenStack setup on several nodes, performing such tasks as the BIOS, RAID configuration and detection of network devices. According to George, Crowbar helps users to carry out "very fast deployment of a multinodal cloud of OpenStack on empty servers". Application of this software will allow to reduce time of deployment of OpenStack of one-two days till several o'clock, he told.

Administrators can also use Crowbar as the OpenStack management tool, solving such problems as condition monitoring of a system, collection of data on performance and the notification. At the same time Crowbar uses a part of the code of two other open network control programs: Naglios and Ganglia. "Crowbar is rather smart to see certain changes and will adapt in this environment of an environment", - George told. For example, if the new server appears in network, Crowbar can carry out its automatic loading by the necessary software of OpenStack and enter it into structure of "cloud".

Though the program was created for work with servers of Dell, first of all it is constructed as the modular program. Thus, the third-party companies can create own modules, expanding functionality of the program or using it for work with servers of other vendors.

According to the company, a hosting and service providers like telecommunication companies will be one of the first who will purchase these systems. "It seems that the market is drawn towards very flexible, scalable technologies, such as open stack", - George considers. Clients can begin with six nodes, for example, for testing, and then add several nodes, together with growth of the loadings which are executed in "cloud".

Begun by the companies Rackspace and NASA, OpenStack is a set of the software with the open code intended for setup of deployment of a cloud. The factory controller and connectors to open source code systems is its part: to the system of messages, virtualization and information warehouses.
