Oracle created the most powerful solution for virtualization

Oracle updated the software of virtualization of servers, having strengthened policy of security management and having increased the number of connectors for connection of storage systems, the press service of the company reported.

According to Adam Hawley (Adam Hawley), the senior director on production of products of the line of virtualization, the updated Oracle VM 3.0 will provide "big scalability in terms of system performance and its management".

The main improvements in a product are new elements of policy of management, the improved support of third-party software makers of systems management of data storage and a possibility of start of bigger number of virtual machines on one server.

Oracle VM is created on the basis of an open source code of a hypervisor of Xen and is the software of virtualization of the x86 server. The program basis of this release comes from acquisition of Oracle of Virtual Iron company in 2009. Today Oracle offers 90 templates for start on Oracle VM of corporate products, such, for example, as PeopleSoft. Users can also unroll Oracle VM as the independent manager of virtualization on the basis of Linux as an alternative to products like vSphere of VMware company.

Monica Kumar, the senior director on marketing of products of virtualization of Oracle, considers that virtualization, expanding the influence and being the instrument of consolidation of servers, becomes a management tool applications.

Now Oracle VM supports up to 128 virtual processors on one server. The previous version - 2.2, could start on one server of only 32 virtual processors. For comparison, the product vSphere 5 which is recently released VMware company supports 32 virtual processors. And Oracle VM and vSphere is supported up to 1 Tb of RAM on one virtual machine.

Hawley noted that new opportunities in the policy of management of Oracle VM 3.0 allow administrators to define scenarios of the taking place events when some condition for operation of the trigger is reached. For example, virtual machines can automatically move from one server to another when loads of the processor or network traffic reach critical levels. As option - workloads can integrate on the smaller number of servers during the periods of decrease in use of systems that will allow to save the electric power.

In this release Oracle introduces a management system for connectors of storage systems which should give to managers of virtualization the chance of bigger control over server storage systems. Administrators "will be able to use storage functions from our control interface therefore they will not need several tools", Hawley noted.

In the previous versions of products the basic functionality for data storage systems management while the new version provides access to specific features of the equipment of different suppliers, such as virtual cloning of machines or to pictures of systems when the copy of the virtual machine remains according to the schedule was offered. Oracle offers the configured modules for systems from EMC, NetApp, Fujitsu, Hitachi and also own storage systems.
