One more Chinese company paves the way on the European market of data warehouses. The first emergence of its products took place at the CeBIT exhibition this year. Perspectives are, the sales channel prepares.

United Information Technology – the second in value supplier of data warehouses in China after Huawei, goes beyond the Great Wall now to begin sales in the West. The company is founded by three Chinese citizens, each of which from five to 10 years worked for the American producers of such systems before returning to China and in 2001 to found UIT.

Three founders held positions of the CEO, chief financial officer, chief executive. The technical director also the citizen of China, with experience in the West. In UIT about 500 employees work. In China at the company of 18 sales offices. The main development center - in Shenzhen.

In 2008 the company decided to go out of China and began to work in Santa Clara. The managing director for the countries of Europe - John Doran who was earlier working for the company making optical means of storage under the name of Plasmon was employed. Doran visited UIT in China in August, 2008 and "estimated growth and potential of what they made in China".

He especially noted: "These guys have an opportunity to become a world brand... It is similar to early EMC that it only storage, but not the systems of the company". Doran was appointed to the position in 2009, and the European transactions began in 2010. The office is located in the city of Cork, Ireland. Logistic transactions are made there.

UIT signed the strategic agreement on cooperation with Intel to provide with the cloud storage the Chinese market. It provided it advance access to technology of Intel and now she uses Intel SSD (solid state drives) and also processors and chipsets. She also works with the Chinese partners in the field of a telecom, built data processing centers and equipped them with the software of the cloud storage, servers of Intel and storage systems, also using chips of Intel.

Product assortment includes NAS storages (Network Attached Storage), iSCSI and FC SAN storages (the Fibre Channel of SAN). Object or tape storage systems are not used. With all products hard drives and/or SSD are used. The company is guided by corporate applications.

There is a separate division of UIT for the market of SOHO (small office, home office) which has own name and operates on the market separately as UEVO.NET. UIT sells products via the channel in Europe and wants to attract more partners, Doran told.

The company is not going to build DPCs in Europe in the nearest future. It develops the software of UIT Cloud Storage for the purpose of start it on one server, for the market of private "clouds". It is expected that it happens by the end of 2011.

In the market UIT competes with Infortrend and Promise. The range of its products blocks both of them. Range of the products UIT is quite closely joined to Infortrend, but is focused on higher segment of the market, than Promise. UIT considers that its basis of the software is much stronger and it will become driving force in the future.

For the first time UIT was exposed at the CeBIT exhibition this year. It has already about ten clients in Europe, but they are widely not known. Doran told: "We begin. The main objective of emergence by CeBIT - grow from a start status. We consider that we have good offers and here presence of the Chinese basic cost helps".

The analyst Chris Mellor considers that all this looks as carefully prepared operation on development of the channel for sales of data warehouses in Europe. Attention to "cloud" - timely and if equipment rooms and software products are reliable, steady, have good cost, are provided with good support, UIT – that name which in the future can be very famous.
