Verizon and IBM created service of backup in "cloud"

The IBM corporation with Verizon brought in partnership on the market the "cloud" service of backup and data recovery focused on large business.

IBM and the American Internet service provider Verizon started a backup service in "cloud" under the name Managed Data Vault. Scheme of its work following: the client performs data backup via the active website, then on Verizon network they are given to data center of IBM. Service is aimed at the enterprises with large volumes of information – about 15-150 Tb and more. In particular it can be interesting to the companies of the financial sphere, retail and the enterprises of the industry of medicine and health care.

IBM went to start of such service purposefully. So, in 2007 the corporation purchased Arsenal Digital company, the developer a backup technologies in "cloud". Besides, in 2008 IBM spent 300 million dollars for acquisition of 13 data centers in 10 countries. Partnership with Verizon was required to IBM for gain of examination regarding the protected data transmission. Managed Data Vault will use high-speed private network Verizon that will allow to solve problems with performance, data security and control over them. Let's remind that these problems still were a basis for scepticism of the enterprises concerning data storage in cloud structures.

According to official data, Verizon networks will allow to transfer information to the speed up to 400 GB/village. If standard communication lines would be used, on data backup on the Internet weeks or even month would leave. Now the enterprises will be able to save the commercial information within hours, claim in IBM.

For the test stage service on the basis of cloud computing will be available only in New York. IBM and Verizon are employed with search of capacities in the data-centers of both companies for the organization of services in other regions of the USA and abroad. The cost of services within Managed Data Vault will depend on the term and the service level. The exact price is still unknown.
