Crime
2024: Muscat terror attack: Mosque parishioners shot
On Monday, July 15, 2024, a tragic event happened in Oman: a terrorist attack occurred near the Imam Ali mosque in the Wadi al-Kabir quarter in Muscat. Unknown persons opened fire on the parishioners of the mosque.
As a result, according to official figures, four people were killed. Another 30 were injured of varying severity. At the same time, various Arab media outlets are talking about more victims.
For Oman, the situation is extraordinary. The sultanate has always been famous for being the safest country in the world, which is a very serious achievement for the Middle East. Especially after the so-called Arab Spring.
Taking into account the citizenship of the dead (all four are Pakistanis), suspicions fall on visitors, of whom there are many in the sultanate. Pakistanis, like Nepalis, like Hindus, travel to Oman to earn money.
The Wadi al-Kabir quarter itself is located near Matrah - the quarter where the largest metropolitan port is located. This is where most migrants work.
IS claimed responsibility for what happened, but there are no official details from the country's authorities.
