2018: Imprisonment for purchases for $89 thousand in a mobile game
In August, 2018 the court found the former librarian Adam Vinger guilty of waste of the state money for the application for mobile devices. He was sentenced to imprisonment for 30 days and 100 hours of social jobs, however term could appear more if Vinger did not admit the guilt and did not pay a penalty.
The defendant worked as the director in library in the city Northern Logan (the State of Utah, the USA) within three years before he went on an administrative summer holiday of 2017 then he left at once.
Vinger was arrested after he spent about $89 thousand for acquisition of gift cards from Amazon, iTunes and Google Play to purchase digital currency of Amazon Coins and to fill up the account for further expenditure of means in the mobile game Game of War. This money was not personal, and is taken from the city budget. To hide the actions, the librarian forged financial statements.
Adam Vinger confessed and agreed to compensate waste, having paid compensation in the amount of $78 thousand to avoid long imprisonment. At the same time it had to sell the house and to give all the savings. Besides, to Vinger prohibited to take the leading positions after an exit from prison.
Developers of games even more often practice a business model when users can download the application free of charge, but for receiving additional functions or discovery of new levels they should pay. Such scheme as set an example with Vinter, well works.
According to Sensor Tower analytical company, purchases in mobile games in the world according to the results of the first half of 2018 increased by 19.1% of rather same period of the 2017th and reached $26.6 billion that corresponds to 78% of total expenses for applications in App Store and Google Play.[1]
