2025: Sentence - 2.5 years in prison for embezzlement of 180 million rubles
The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow convicted Alexei Gostyukhin, the former head of the department of the Moscow branch of the National Savings Bank (NBS JSC). He was found guilty of embezzlement of 180 million rubles and sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. This was announced on October 29, 2025 by the Kommersant publication.
The publication of the publication says that in December 2024, from a representative of the NBS board, the police received a statement about the embezzlement of 179.3 million rubles from a bank cell rented by a bank client - an individual entrepreneur.
During the investigation, a criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft on an especially large scale). According to the results of an internal audit conducted at NBS JSC, it was established that the only person who had access to this cell was Gostyukhin.
According to the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk, the accused carried out the theft of funds in parts, using his official position and the lack of control by the employees. According to Volk, Gostyukhin converted part of the stolen funds (35 million rubles) into cryptocurrency.
According to Kommersant, Gostyukhin was detained at the airport while trying to fly to Thailand. By the decision of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow on January 22, 2025, he was taken into custody.
During the trial, the defendant pleaded guilty. Taking into account the fact that he returned the money to the victim in full, the court reclassified the charge to Part 4 of Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement on an especially large scale), since the damage was caused directly to the bank.
Judge Tatyana Izotova found Gostyukhin guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment for 2.5 years with serving in a general regime colony. The proceedings in the civil suit have been terminated. The convict's lawyers intend to file an appeal.[1]
