2023: House arrest in fraud case

In early May 2023, Alexei Bashkin, director of Rehabilitation Technologies LLC, was sent under house arrest in Nizhny Novgorod. He is suspected of fraud related to the supply of low-quality prostheses to the market.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, in April 2023, law enforcement officers seized shin prostheses from nine disabled people in the Nizhny Novgorod region without drawing up documents. These products were manufactured by Rehabilitation Technologies under a contract agreement with Moscow-based NPF Orto-Cosmos LLC, which won the purchase of the Nizhny Novgorod Social Fund for the supply of 115 prosthetic shins for a total of 17.5 million rubles. Subsequently, Bashkin was detained: he was charged with attempted fraud in the amount of over 1 million rubles together with unidentified persons.

According to the prosecution, the seized prostheses do not comply with the terms of the state contract. This conclusion was made based on the results of the examination of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. On this basis, the FSB investigator demanded that Bashkin be arrested for a period of two months. At the same time, the defendant's lawyer Zhanna Berezina insisted that such a measure was unnecessary. The fact is that Alexey Bashkin is a disabled person himself, who has lost his leg. He walks on his prosthesis, needing constant therapy. And therefore, in the pre-trial detention center, where the prosthesis will be taken from him, the man simply will not be able to move independently. The court, given these arguments, sided with the defense and refused to arrest Bashkin, sending him under house arrest.

The suspect himself states that the accusations against him are not substantiated. According to him, the supplied prostheses meet quality requirements, and they want to oust his company from the market.
