Biography
On May 3, 2023, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (TFR) in the Sverdlovsk Region announced the sentencing of three residents of Yekaterinburg who were found guilty of fraud and embezzlement of funds on an especially large scale.
According to the Kommersant newspaper, the defendants in the case are the former head of the pharmacy chain Pharmacy Andrei Popov, the head of the legal department of the institution Valentina Lunegova and her sister Svetlana Irshina. The investigation of the TFR and the court established that the named persons committed crimes in 2019-2020. In particular, in 2019, Valentina Lunegova, with the complicity of Andrei Popov, stole funds from the organization on an especially large scale. In the future, the money was legalized with the assistance of her sister Svetlana Irshina.
In addition, in 2020, Valentina Lunegova and Andrei Popov made preparations for embezzlement of funds on an especially large scale belonging to the state unitary enterprise in which they held senior positions. But the accused could not implement the planned scheme for a number of reasons, including because Popov was dismissed from his post.
Depending on the role, the defendants in the case were found guilty of committing crimes under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud on an especially large scale), part 1 of article 30, part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for fraud on an especially large scale), part 5 of Art. 33, part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (complicity in fraud on an especially large scale), part 1 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of office), part 4 of Art. 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (legalization of funds acquired by a person as a result of a crime committed by him, on an especially large scale) and part 4 of Art. 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (legalization of funds on an especially large scale acquired by other persons by criminal means).[1]
