2022: Admitted his guilt in a criminal case
At the end of June 2022, it became known that the first person in Russia accused of selling cheats for computer games pleaded guilty. We are talking about Andrei Kirsanov, against whom a criminal case was initiated on the creation and distribution of malware (part 2 of article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; up to 5 years in prison) for World of Tanks and World of Warships. The damage to the game developer - Wargaming - from the actions of the accused is estimated at 670 million rubles.
According to the investigation, Kirsanov, selling cheat codes, gave gamers the opportunity to use an automatic sight or put the game in automatic mode. Thus, the experience and in-game currency for the player earned a bot - a program for pumping an account without direct participation of the player. Kirsanov sold codes at different prices - from 25 to 2125 rubles. Wargaming stated that by his actions the Russian beat off interest in the game of users who did not have codes.
This is an unprecedented case for Russia, since before it it had not yet been prosecuted directly for unauthorized interference in the gaming industry. Andrei Kirsanov became the first in Russia accused of committing cybercrime in the field of the gaming industry, TASS notes. Initially, the case was considered by the Cheryomushkinsky court of Moscow, but later it was sent under jurisdiction to the Verkh-Isetsky district court of Yekaterinburg.
According to TASS, a native of Yekaterinburg Andrei Kirsanov confirmed his guilt during a meeting in the Verkh-Isetsky District Court of the city.
