Biography

2025: Sentence - 21 years in prison for abusing 94 female patients

The judicial authorities of Norway sentenced 55-year-old gynecologist Arne Bai to 21 years in prison in the case of sexual crimes committed against patients. The verdict was passed in early June 2025 based on the results of the consideration of the criminal case

According to HLN, the doctor was found guilty of 70 episodes of sexual violence and 82 cases of abuse of office. Crimes were committed between 2004 and 2022 in the medical practice of Bai in the city of Frost in central Norway.

A total of 94 women testified against the gynecologist. The victims told about violent actions during gynecological examinations. The doctor used not only fingers, but also foreign objects without medical grounds.

Under Norwegian law, such acts qualify as rape. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 67. The crimes took place in the doctor's office during routine medical examinations.

The defense asked the court to reduce the term to 17-18 years, but the judge rejected the petition. The court noted that the actions of the doctor are "absolutely unacceptable." The sentence corresponds to the request of the prosecutor's office for the maximum punishment.

Bai pleaded guilty to only 20 episodes of the charges. The doctor has not yet decided whether to appeal the verdict to a higher authority.

In addition to imprisonment, the court forbade the gynecologist to engage in medical activities. The decision is indefinite and deprives Bai of the right to work as a doctor in any field of medicine.

The court also ordered the convict to pay monetary compensation to all affected women. The amount of payments will be determined in a separate order for each victim, depending on the damage caused.^[1]
