The abbot Tikhon (in the world Alexander Yakovlevich Barsukov) was born in Altai on November 11, 1954.

Education

Studied at the Altai state medical university.

Biography

1979-1991

After the termination of the university  worked six years in Medical and sanitary department No. 27 of the 3rd Head department of a medzdrav of the USSR. In 1987 he finished a clinical internship in Moscow and was employed in the Central clinical hospital of recovery treatment at the Federal Medical Biological Agency (FMBA) of Russia.

It was christened at the age of 37 years, in 1991.

1996-2010

In 1996 became the novice in Trinity-Sergius Lavra and accepted monastic tonsured on April 17, 1997. In monastery it performed obedience of the chief doctor. In 1998 it was hailed the celibate priest, in 2010 — the abbot.

2020: Death from a coronavirus

On May 6, 2020 it became known of the death of the chief physician of Trinity-Sergius Lavra and the Moscow spiritual academy abbot Tikhon because of COVID-19 coronaviruses.

On May 6, 2020 announced Telegram channel of monastery that Tikhon died. According to information on the monastery website, the abbot Tikhon died on May 5.[1]

The chief physician of Trinity-Sergius Lavra and the Moscow spiritual academy abbot Tikhon (Badgers) departed to the Lord. The father Tikhon died after a serious illness from the complications caused by a koronavirusny infection, said in Telegram channel.

The killing craze of 2020 did not avoid the father Tikhon. He was called to give the answer before the Lord in day of remembrance of the great martyr Georges the Victorious, on May 6  — it is reported on the website of monastery.

In the last several weeks it became known of death because of a new koronavirusny infection or diseases  of several priests caused by it:

  • metropolitan Jonah (Karpukhin);
  • the prior of the Bogoyavlensky cathedral in Elokhov; archpriest Alexander Ageykin;
  • clergyman of the Pokrovsk Khotkovo of stavropigialny convent;
  • archpriest Evgeny Korchukov;
  • the deacon of the temple of Reverends Zosima and Savvatiya Solovetskikh in Golyanov Andrey Molchanov;
  • Bishop of Zheleznogorsk and Lgov Veniamin;
  • protodeacon of Epiphany Elokhovsky Cathedral Evgeny Trofimov;
  • archpriest Vladimir Veriga.
