2024: Sentence - 5.5 years in prison for lying about the Russian army
Russian video blogger Anna Bazhutova, better known under the pseudonym YokoBovich, was sentenced to 5.5 years in a general regime colony. The Ostankino District Court of the capital issued such a verdict on June 05, 2024 on charges of publicly disseminating deliberately inaccurate information about the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In addition, the blogger was banned from administering websites for a period of 3 years.
According to Forbes, the reason for the criminal prosecution of the blogger was its stream in April 2022. During the broadcast, Bazhutova read out a donater's message mentioning the events in Bucha, Kyiv region, and made a corresponding "signa" - a photo with an inscription on a similar topic.
According to the court, the actions of the video blogger fall under paragraph "d" of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of Russia). In addition to the real term of imprisonment, Bazhutova was appointed a three-year ban on the administration of Internet resources. According to Forbes, the blogger has been in custody since August 2023. She herself previously linked her criminal prosecution with "bullying" by activists of the radical movement "Male State."
In addition to five and a half years in prison, the punishment for Anna Bazhutova includes deprivation of the right to administer sites or social networks on the Internet for three years. During the debate, the streamer asked to impose a punishment on her that was not related to imprisonment. But judicial practice shows that much more often suspended sentences are replaced by real ones.
According to Forbes, the city of Bucha, Kyiv region, in March 2022, was under the control of Russian troops for some time. After their withdrawal, the Ukrainian authorities announced the discovery of the bodies of civilians with signs of violent death on the territory of the settlement. Moscow categorically denied any accusations, calling the incident a "provocation" and "forgery."[1]
