2023: Charges of fraud in the purchase of medicines and seizure of property worth 53 million rubles
On May 22, 2023, it became known that Boris Barankin, former general director of the Federal Siberian Scientific and Clinical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, was detained by law enforcement officers in a large-scale fraud case (Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to Kommersant, investigators detained Boris Barankin on January 14, 2025 as part of a criminal case under part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia. For this crime, punishment is provided from eight to fifteen years in prison.

After interrogation and placement in a temporary detention center, Boris Barankin allegedly attempted suicide. In a coma, he was taken to an emergency hospital, where doctors managed to save his life.
According to the publication, relatives of the former director of the FMBA center expressed doubt about the version of the suicide attempt. They consider the incident an accident and insist on a thorough investigation of the incident.
In relation to Boris Barankin, this is the second criminal case. Since March 2024, the first case related to large-scale theft in the supply of medicines has been considered in the Central District Court of Krasnoyarsk. The next court hearing is scheduled for February 10, 2025.
