Borje Ekholm directed public investment company Investor AB from 2005 to 2015. Then he became the CEO of "subsidiary" of Investor AB – Patricia Industries. Ekholm joined the board Ericsson in 2005.

2016: Appointment of Ericsson as the head

On October 26, 2016 the Swedish producer of telecommunication equipment Ericsson announced 53-year-old Borje Ekholm appointment the new CEO of the company. Analysts ambiguously treated this appointment.

Borje Ekholm will officially head Ericsson on January 16, 2017, having released from a duty Jan Frykhammar who temporarily fulfilled duties of the CEO of the company after Hans Vestberg resignation in July, 2016. Commenting on Ekholm arrival to the management of Ericsson, the chairman of the board of the company Leif Johansson noted the following:

It has a firm understanding of technology and business effects of the continuing convergence of a telecom, IT and media. Having stayed in Board of Directors of Ericsson about 10 years, Borje Ekholm began to understand completely problems and opportunities which the company faces.

The analyst of Redeye Greger Johansson considers "in general rather positive" for Ericsson receiving the CEO's position by Borje Ekholm as it has good reputation in the market of investments and the experience got from entry into Board of Directors of the Swedish producer.

The analyst of Handelsbanken Daniel Djurberg agrees that membership in Board of Directors of Ericsson allowed Ekholm to understand telecom industry well. However, according to the expert, appointment raises the mass of questions, and in it "it is difficult to make out something new" for the company.

Change of the CEO in Ericsson it was announced several days later after the company announced receiving the first net loss in four years. Monetary losses of vendor in the third quarter were 2016 233 million Swedish kronur ($26.3 million), and revenue was reduced by 14% to 51.1 billion kroner ($5.8 billion).[1]
