2020: Appointment of Western Digital as the CEO

On March 5, 2020 Western Digital announced David Gekeler's appointment the new CEO. He will officially head the company on March 9, having released Steve Milligan from the highest duty.

The last directed the producer of hard drives since 2013, and in September of the 2020th he will finally leave  Western Digital. Till this time it will work as the adviser and will help the company with a transient period.

David Gekeler passes into Western Digital from Cisco where he held a position executive the vice president and the general manager of division of development of networks and information security systems. He supervised updating of strategy of Cisco in the field of networks and security and also transfer of this business to software model and the repeating sources of income.

Todd Nightingale, the senior vice president of Cisco and the general manager of Cisco Meraki became Gekeler's successor in Cisco. He headed division of Enterprise Networking and Cloud which annual revenues are stated in $34 billion[1]

As notes the CRN edition, working in Cisco, David Gekeler was one of the highest paid the top manager.

The analyst of Pund-IT Charles King supported the solution of Western Digital on Gekeler's appointment by the CEO of the company and reported that this head accurately knows how to manage multi-billion business, improving it for new opportunities.
