2024: Sentence - 13 years in prison for giving the SBU access to them
On December 6, 2024, it became known that the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea sentenced Dmitry Pospelov, a resident of the Krasnodar Territory, to 13 years in prison in a maximum security colony for high treason. The convict provided the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) with access to video surveillance cameras in the hotels of the peninsula.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia, Pospelov in 2017, after visiting Ukraine through the Chongar checkpoint, came into contact with a representative of the SBU and agreed to cooperate. After that, he settled in the Leninsky district of Crimea, where he began installing and maintaining video surveillance systems in hotels in the coastal zone.
Through the installed cameras, representatives of the SBU were able to observe the movement of equipment of the Russian Armed Forces along the roads of the peninsula. In addition, the convict transferred access to the database of one of the Internet providers containing personal information about Russian citizens to foreign special services.
The court found Dmitry Pospelov guilty under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (high treason). In addition to the main term of imprisonment, the convict was sentenced to additional punishment in the form of restriction of freedom for one and a half years after release.
The verdict was made taking into account the position of the public prosecutor. The case was considered in compliance with all procedural rules, the defendant was granted the right to defense and a fair trial.
During the investigation, the guilt of the defendant in the commission of the alleged crime was fully proved. The collected evidence confirmed the fact of deliberate cooperation with the foreign intelligence service and the transfer of information to it that could be used against the interests of Russian security.
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea took into account all the circumstances of the case when sentencing. The decision can be appealed in accordance with the procedure established by law within ten days from the date of the proclamation of the verdict.[1]
