John William Draper is a legendary phreaker, one of the first hackers. Was born in 1944. It is known also as "Cap’n Crunch" (Captain Kranch). Designed the special device which in a combination to a whistle and the telephone set allowed it to do free phone calls. At the same time Draper is the author of one of the first text editors under the name "Easy Writer" for Apple II in 1979.
Biography
Dreyper's construct in an effect was finished by Steve Jobs and Stephen Wozniak. "Blue Box" — the device which allowed users to bypass switching gears in telephone lines was as a result received. Such approach gave the chance to make long distance calls free of charge. Jobs and Wozniak sold these "blyu-boxes" to fellow students and even used him for a call to the Pope, pretending to be Henry Kissinger.
Dreyper selected a nickname to himself thanks to a box of oat flakes under the name of the same name in which John detected the toy whistle put there as a gift for inducement of buyers once. Dreyper noticed that the whistle makes a sound with a frequency of 2600 Hz matching the frequency of an electric signal of access to a telephone network AT&T telecommunication. Besides - the box from under flakes was used as the resonator. And then Dreyper decides to use a whistle for cracking of telephone lines to make free calls. Soon after emergence of "Blue Box" article under the name "Secrets of a Small Blue Box" was published in the Esquire magazine. In it the order of production of the similar device was described. After that the number of cases of telephone frauds considerably increased in the United States. John Dreyper was arrested in 1976 and sentenced to two months of imprisonment.

- Dreyper and Steve Wozniak were good friends. The last together with Steve Jobs created on the basis of Dreyper Blue Box's ideas.
- Dreyper was represented in the movie by Wayne Pere "Pirates of Silicon Valley".
- On one of legends John Dreyper phoned to the White House and talked to Richard Nixon, the U.S. President.
