2017: 25 years of prison

In August, 2017 Eddie Tipton was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment for fraudulent setup of a lottery IT system thanks to which the programmer "won" more than $2 million.

In 2003 Eddie Tipton began work at one of offices  of Interstate lottery association  (Multi-State Lottery Association) which members are  33  American operators of lotteries. This non-profit organization controls the choice of numbers in advantageous tickets. At first Tipton worked as the programmer, and then served to the head of department of information security.

In 2005 Eddie Tipton implemented the malware which allowed to modify a lottery random number generator in network of association.  As a result the man had an opportunity to predict results of a lottery and to earn from it.

The investigation knows of illegal enrichment of Tipton a minimum of $2 million. On this money he purchased a country house of 446 square meters which was constructed in the territory in 9 hectares.

Besides, Tipton shared advantageous combinations with the friends and relatives. Representatives of association in  Iowa began to suspect Tipton of  fraud after  he tried to take away  $14.3 million under the lottery ticket.

Eddie Tipton was arrested in 2015, in June of the 2017th he admitted the guilt and agreed to pay compensation in the amount of $2.2 million to the lottery companies which suffered from fraudulent activity of the programmer. At the same time he recognized that he does not know how will pay this money.

At the end of August pronounced to Tipton a sentence: 25 years of prison in the American State of Iowa. In the last word he said that he very much regrets for deeds:
