2023: Arrest on fraud charges

In December 2023, the Nikulinsky Court of Moscow arrested NFT artist and blogger Sergei Galanter in a large-scale fraud case (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He will stay in jail until at least February 12, 2024.

The article under which Galanter passes assumes a maximum punishment of ten years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million rubles.

The fact that the husband of the popular blogger Maria Afonina Sergey Galanter owed investors $6 million became known in October 2023, Izvestia writes. The digital artist and investment expert, as he calls himself, offered subscribers to invest in virtual art, in particular in the promotion of his NFT works. About 200 victims who transferred from 500 thousand rubles to $500 thousand. Galanter, they were going to get a criminal case of fraud against the artist and were preparing a class action lawsuit for compensation for multimillion-dollar damage. At the same time, it became known that signs of a financial pyramid were found in the artist's scheme.

The artist himself then told the publication that he did not see any deception in his activities. According to him, the deal simply "moved a little." Galanter noted that the situation when transactions stop if the fund begins to have problems is normal, while, in his opinion, the refund occurs at a very accelerated pace. He reinforced his honesty with the fact that he did not hide anywhere and remained in Moscow.

At the end of October 2023, investors who did not receive their money back accused Galanter of cheating for $6 million and announced the preparation of a class action lawsuit. The artist himself linked the non-payment of the promised funds with "market errors" and promised to pay off debts "somewhere until January 11-12."[1]
