2025: Joining the US Presidential Administration

At the end of August 2025, the president USA Donald Trump appointed co-founder and former chief product officer Joe Gebbia to the post of head Airbnb of modernizing the government's digital services. He will head a specially created National Design Studio.

Gebbia, 44, will work to improve government websites, many of which are long out of date. Trump's decree says that "the time has come to patch up digital holes across the country" and update the design of the government's Internet resources, making them both convenient and beautiful.

My task is to update government services to be as easy to use as the Apple Store: beautifully designed, with an excellent user interface, running on modern software, "Gebbia commented on his new role.

Under Trump's executive order, the National Design Studio will improve the usability and appearance of federal digital services. The studio will advise various government agencies on reducing duplicate site upgrade costs. At the same time, it is planned to use a standardized approach to the design of government Internet resources. As part of the project, the heads of federal agencies will have to consult with Gebbia on how to implement the initiative. The decree also states that work to improve the websites of the authorities will be completed in three years.

Previously, Gebbia interacted with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Among other things, DOGE is responsible for optimizing the work of government agencies and reducing inefficient federal budget spending. Gebbia worked mainly on the modernization of the pension document system in the personnel management department.[1]
