Biography

Gina Cheri Haspel was born on October 1, 1956. There is not a lot of details of her life in free access as it often happens to professional intelligence agents, namely madam Haspel belongs to this estate.

1985: The beginning of work in CIA

It began to work in CIA in 1985, and, at operational work abroad at once. It is known that it worked under cover in a number of the countries of the world, in certain cases heading local residency.

Having returned to Washington, she promoted, having become at first the deputy manager of operational management of CIA (after reform of 2004 this department is called National service of secret investigation), the associate director of NSTR and the chief of staff of this service.

2002: The head of secret prison of CIA in Thailand, the leadership in tortures

In 2002 she directed in Thailand one of secret prisons of CIA code-named "Cat's eye". This prison contained accused of participation in activity Al-Qaeda, among them the citizen of Saudi Arabia Abu Zubayda who was considered one of leaders of this terrorist organization. "advanced methods of interrogation" or, in other words, torture were applied to him. According to data of the inspections which are carried out later, 83 times applied torture to the prisoner water, deprived of him a dream, for weeks kept in a dog cage or locked in the box similar to a coffin. Moreover, knowing that Zubayda is afraid of insects, the staff of prison thrust them to him into this box. As the management of CIA reported then, thanks to these interrogations they managed to get the important intelligence information which allowed to prevent a number of terrorist attacks and to save lives of the American citizens at the prisoner.

However, in several years and after a number of the carried-out inspections of CIA it was forced to be recognized that Zubayda not only was not one of leaders of Al-Qaeda, but also had no relation to this organization at all. And all statements for value of information obtained from it by tortures were a lie.

It was necessary to special committee of the Senate of the USA on investigation hardly in conducting investigation of activity of secret prisons of CIA abroad and uses in them the prohibited methods of conducting interrogation including because documents, including video records which could confirm illegal activity of staff of Cat's Eye prison were destroyed. According to different data, the order on their destruction was given by the director of CIA of that time José Rodriguez who in due time personally appointed her chief prisons in Thailand or madam Haspel (such option is stated in the autobiographical book by José Rodriguez)^[1].

2017: Deputy directors of CIA. ECCHR asks it to arrest

On February 7, 2017 Geena Haspel was appointed the associate director of CIA. In a new position she supervised collecting and data analysis, activity of counterintelligence and communication with foreign services.

In media she was quite often called "the venerable intelligence agent", "the veteran of investigation", and the head of CIA Mike Pompeo noted it "amazing capability be able to do the part".

The name of Geena Haspel several times emerged in connection with investigations of activity of secret prisons of CIA. And on June 7, 2017 the European center for constitutional rights and human rights (ECCHR) asked the Prosecutor General of Germany to issue the warrant for her arrest on the case of tortures of suspects of terrorism.

2018: Promotion on a post of the head of CIA

In March, 2018 the president USA Donald Trump announced resignation of the Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and appointed the former head of CIA Mike Pompeo to his place. The president nominated Geena Haspel to a vacant place. As it regularly happens to Donald Trump's administration, new appointment right there became a reason for fierce disputes, mutual recriminations, links to the destroyed documents, presentations of indisputable facts, etc. in the American political and public circles.

In the favourite manner, through Twitter, the president Donald Trump announced: "Geena Haspel will become the new director of CIA and the first woman on this post". Did not pass also several minutes after the publication of this tweet as all America and the whole world learned a lot of new, or more likely well forgotten old, about the new director of CIA.

It was expected that discussion of the candidacy of Geena Haspel (her position assignment should be approved by the U.S. Senate) will be rough especially as for her appointment republicans have no vast majority and, what is even more awful, at least one republican senator will precisely vote against her. And it means that eventually the honor become the first woman at the head of Central Intelligence Agency of the USA can get another.
