Biography

The family of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has three children - Hafez, Zeina and Karim. The eldest son was named after his grandfather, former Syrian President Hafez Assad, who led the country from 1971 to 2000.

In 2018, Hafez Assad (Jr.) received a certificate of secondary education with honors, after which he studied at the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (HIAST). The fact that he will continue his studies in Russia became known in 2016. Then the first lady Asma Assad, speaking at a graduation party with local schoolchildren, said that the most talented and successful in their studies would be able to go to the Russian Federation and get an education for free. It was emphasized that Hafez Assad is an excellent student and winner of the mathematical Olympiad in Malaysia.[1]

2023: Graduation from Moscow State University

At the end of June 2023, it became known that the eldest son of President Syria Bashar al-Assad, Hafez, completed his studies Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and received a diploma with honors.

According to the government newspaper Al Watan, Hafez Assad studied at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. He earned a master's degree in pure mathematics with a master's thesis in number theory. The work was written under the leadership of the head of the department of mathematical and computer methods of analysis, Professor Vladimir Nikolaevich Chubarikov.

According to TASS, Hafez Assad received a diploma along with other Syrian students who also completed their studies at Moscow State University. Certificates of graduation with honors were presented to graduates by the rector of the university Viktor Sadovnichy. At his special invitation, First Lady of Syria Asma Assad arrived in Moscow, accompanied by a delegation. She attended the red diploma ceremony, after which she personally met and talked with the rector and leadership of the university.
