2023: Appointment as Unilever Chief
Hein Schumacher has been appointed the new CEO of Unilever, who will replace Alan Jope in this post. The company announced this on January 30, 2023.
Jope in September 2022 announced his intention to retire. The company notes that after a "comprehensive global search," it decided to appoint Schumacher as CEO, who became a non-executive director of Unilever in October 2022. In addition, Hein Schumacher holds the post of head of the global division of dairy and food Royal FrieslandCampina.
Hein is a business leader with an excellent track record at several leading consumer goods companies. As CEO of Royal FrieslandCampina, a €11 billion company operating in more than 40 countries, he has made significant changes to the organizational structure as part of a restructuring aimed at growth and a more sustainable business, Unilever notes. |
51-year-old Hein Schumacher, before joining Royal FrieslandCampina, worked for H.J. Heinz for more than a decade: in 2008 he was appointed director of strategy, and in 2011 he moved to China as president and chief executive officer. In 2013, he took over as Executive Vice President of Asia Pacific Zone Kraft Heinz.
The duties of the CEO of Unilever Schumacher will begin on July 1, 2023 after a monthly transfer period. For him, an annual fixed salary of €1.85 million has been determined. In addition, Hein Schumacher will be eligible for an annual bonus and reward under the Performance Share plan. Unilever will also provide him with share-based compensation in return for losing incentive payments from a previous employer.[1]
