2024: Arrest in bribery case

A court in Chuvashia arrested the deputy director of the Center for Resource Support of State Health Institutions under the republican Ministry of Health on suspicion of receiving a bribe on a large scale, the initiation of a criminal case became known on December 14, 2024.

According to the Investigative Department Investigative Committee Russia , in Chuvash Republic October 2024, the suspect received a bribe from a representative of a commercial organization for assistance in concluding a state contract for the overhaul of the building of the republican psychiatric hospital and subsequent patronage during its execution.

The illegal activities of the official were revealed and stopped by investigators of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Chuvashia together with officers of the FSB in the Chuvash Republic. The criminal case was initiated under paragraph "in" part 5 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia (taking a bribe by an official on a large scale).

As part of the investigation, investigators conducted searches at the place of residence and the work of the suspect. As a result of investigative actions, items and documents of importance for the criminal case were seized.

The court granted the petition of the investigation to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to the suspect. The investigating authorities continue to collect and consolidate the evidence base.

By mid-December 2024, the attackers are carrying out a set of investigative and procedural actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime. Work is also underway to identify possible additional episodes of the suspect's illegal activities.

If proven guilty under Part 5 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia, the suspect faces a sentence of imprisonment for up to twelve years with a fine of up to sixty times the amount of the bribe. According to local media, we are talking about Ilya Gorbylev.^[1]
