2022: Appointment as CEO of Philips

On August 16, 2022, Philips announced that Roy Yakobs plans to replace Frans van Houten as president and CEO from October 15, 2022.

The Amsterdam-based company's supervisory board and CEO van Houten concluded it was time for a change of leadership as his third term in office ends. The council unanimously decided to propose Jacobs to succeed van Houten.

The move comes as the Dutch medical technology giant faces a major recall of its devices. The recall affected more than 5.5 million ventilators and CPAP, and is associated with 124 deaths from April 2021 to April 30, 2022, the FDA reports citing medical reports received.[1]

Over the years, Jacobs has held various senior positions at Philips, including Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer for Philips Lighting and Philips Market Leader for Healthcare Systems, Consumer Products and Lighting in the Middle East and Turkey. In 2018, he became the chief business leader of personal health, and at the beginning of 2020 he headed the company's work to overcome the COVID crisis. In June 2021, Jacobs took responsibility for recalling Respironics products on behalf of the company.
