2018: Plans for revival of Acer using gamers
The Taiwan Acer manufacturing PC lays great hopes on fans of computer games and calculates that sales of the equipment for the professional gamers participating in cybersport tournaments will help to revive the company. About it in February, 2018 the Bloomberg agency was told by the CEO of Acer Jason Chen.
In January, 2018 announced Acer that its consolidated revenue at the end of 2017 increased by 8%. Among the directions with the best dynamics the company called a gaming segment, having noted that in a final quarter of 2017 growth by 129% was recorded here.[1]
In a February interview of Bloomberg Jason Chen reported that sales of products of Acer focused computer players in the 2017th increased by 13-15% while global market of the PC saved a negative trajectory.
The head of Acer sees big perspectives on the game direction and considers that on the scales and popularity the cybersport concedes unless to soccer. According to Chen, opportunities in a gaming segment are almost boundless.
Optimism of Acer is separated also by analysts. So, Melrose Chiu from Morgan Stanley predicts that in 2018 sales of gaming products of Acer can increase by 70% while in other directions zero growth is expected.
However, though the cybersport equipment, including the high quality monitors and the powerful systems which are released under the Predator trademark purchases the increasing value for Acer, Jason Chen noticed that the company is not going to forget about the main products - traditional PCs. The share of the gaming equipment in revenue of Acer will grow, but will not exceed 50%, the company executive said.
Also during the conversation Chen confirmed plans of Acer to separate a number of divisions, including StarVR business occupied with sale and promotion of helmets of virtual reality of StarVR and the division specializing in systems for "smart parkings".[2]
