Biography
2021: Appointment as head of Samsung's smartphone and consumer electronics division
December 7, 2021 Samsung Electronics announced the merger of its smartphones production and consumer divisions. As electronic engineers a result of the merger of these assets, a structure called SET Division was created, headed by the ex-head of Samsung's display business, Jong-Hee Han.
He is also appointed as one of the two new Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of Samsung Electronics along with Kyehyun Kyung. The latter became the head of the semiconductor division of DS Division. Previously, the corporation had three CEOs.
Jeong Hee-han is a leading TV research and development expert and has been instrumental in the company's leadership in global TV sales for the 15th consecutive year. It is expected to strengthen synergy between the various structures of the SET Division and contribute to the development of new enterprises and technologies, Samsung said in a press release. |
In total, during the reorganization announced by the South Korean corporation, seven appointments were made to senior positions, including the replacement of the CFO of Samsung Electronics. The reorganization has become the largest since 2017, the company associates it with the intention of increasing competitiveness.
The change in leadership simplifies the organizational structure of the burgeoning tech giant into two consumer product and component divisions. Until 2030, it expects to become the largest contract chip manufacturer, bypassing the Taiwanese company TSMC in this status.
As noted by The Wall Street Journal, the reorganization of the company symbolizes changes in revenue sources for Samsung. If in the early 2000s the main driver of the corporation's financial growth was televisions, in the next decade - smartphones, then by the end of 2021 such a status was given to chips.[1]
2022
In 2022, Chung Hee-han was appointed CEO and co-vice chairman of the company's board.
2025: Death by heart attack
On March 25, 2025, Jung Hee-han, one of the CEOs of Samsung Electronics, died. He died of a heart attack at the age of 63.
Samsung paid tribute to Chung Hee-han, saying he had dedicated more than 37 years of his life to leading the company's television business. As head of electronics and home appliances, he is noted to have contributed to Samsung's growth in a "challenging business environment."

The company's second chief executive, Jun Young Hyun, who oversees Samsung's semiconductor business, will assume the responsibilities of Jung Hee-han. At the same time, he will become the only CEO of the company.[2]
