2023: Arrest in absentia in a major embezzlement case

In February 2023, the Basmanny Court of Moscow authorized the arrest in absentia of the former chairman of the board of Metropol Bank Aydar Kotyuzhansky, who is accused of embezzlement on an especially large scale.

According to Kommersant, Boris Chukaev, ex-captain of the Alpha FSB special forces, was sentenced to 18 years in a maximum security colony for an attempt on Kotyuzhansky in 2022. In 2001, the ex-owner of Metropolis miraculously survived an attempt on him near the CSKA sports complex on Leningradsky Prospekt in Moscow. Then a VAZ-2106 exploded near his BMW 750. The ex-banker himself was saved from fragments by an open trunk lid of a foreign car, the newspaper reports.

In February 2023, the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal upheld the ruling of the Moscow Arbitration Court, which at the end of August 2022, at the request of the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA, bankruptcy trustee), decided to recover 995.4 million rubles in losses from four previously controlling Moscow bank Metropol.

According to Interfax, citing a court file, the appeal, in particular, upheld the recovery from the former chairman of the board of directors of the bank Andrei Faminsky 466.2 million rubles, board member Sergei Ryzhkov 214.5 million rubles, advisers to the board of directors of the bank Igor Koldyshkin 195.4 million rubles and Ruslan Torshkhoev 119.3 million rubles in losses.
