2025: Transfer to phone scammers ₽20 million

Academician Anatoly Kozyrev lost ₽19,757 million, becoming a victim of telephone fraudsters. Honored Scientist of Russia and full member of the Academy of Mining Sciences of the Russian Federation transferred money to attackers from November 30, 2024 to January 24, 2025. On the fact of fraud on an especially large scale, the 84-year-old scientist filed an application with law enforcement agencies on February 7, 2025.

According to 78.ru, a pensioner living in Pavlovsk (Pushkin district of St. Petersburg) said that unknown persons who introduced themselves as employees of various services called him. The callers told the scientist that they were allegedly trying to transfer funds to Ukraine from his bank account, and to prevent these operations, it was necessary to transfer all available funds to couriers.

Believing the fraudsters, the professor several times handed over various amounts of cash to couriers. Due to his age, the victim did not remember to accept couriers, which makes it difficult to investigate. On the fact of the incident, law enforcement agencies are checking.

The victim Anatoly Kozyrev is a famous mining scientist, doctor of technical sciences, professor, laureate of the USSR State Prize and the Russian Government Prize in the field of science and technology. During his scientific career, he published more than 250 scientific papers, including nine monographs, is the author of 13 copyright certificates and patents.

Law enforcement agencies regularly warn citizens about the need to be vigilant when receiving suspicious calls, especially if unknown persons ask to transfer or transfer funds. It is recommended to double-check the information, contacting the organization directly according to official contact data, and not make hasty decisions under pressure from the interlocutor.^[1]
