Biography
1957-2016
Lam was born on July 10, 1957 in the northern Vietnamese province of Hyungyen. He graduated from the National Security Academy and began his career as an ordinary officer. Since 1981 - member of the Communist Party of Vietnam, graduated from the courses of the National Political Academy. Ho Chi Minh.
Lam worked in the first main political security directorate of the interior ministry. He held various leadership positions in the structure of the state security bodies. He oversaw counterintelligence and the suppression of anti-government dissident and religious groups. In 2009, with the rank of major general, he was appointed head of the first main security department of the Ministry of Public Security. In August 2010, Lam took over as Deputy Minister of Public Security, and in April 2016 took over as Minister.
2021-2023
To Lam visited repeatedly. In Russia 2021, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin awarded him the Order of Friendship for his great contribution to the development of bilateral cooperation between the countries. In 2023, Lam met Vietnam with the head MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS Minister of the Interior Russia and Alexander Kurenkov and Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
2024: Elected President of Vietnam
On May 22, 2024, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam elected Army General To Lam (Tô Lâm) as president of the country. Prior to that, he served as Minister of Public Safety.
The new president said he intends to actively solve the problems of domestic and foreign policy, national defense and security of Vietnam. Speaking at the inauguration, Lam stressed that he plans to make every possible effort to improve the quality of life of citizens and prosperity of the state. Former Vietnamese President Wo Van Thuong resigned for personal reasons on March 20, 2024.[1]
