2021:5 years in prison for spreading coronavirus
In early September 2021, it was reported that a Vietnamese man was sentenced to a record five years in prison for spreading the COVID-19 virus after he violated the rules of home quarantine.
Le Van Tri was convicted of spreading dangerous infectious diseases to other people after he arrived in his native province of Ka Mau in Vietnam from the epicenter of Ho Chi Minh coronavirus in July 2021.
Le Van Tri, 28, was charged with violating a 21-day home quarantine in the southern province, where the incidence rate is lower than in Ho Chi Minh City, and was tested positive for COVID-19 on July 7, 2021.
Le Van Three's violation of the home medical quarantine rules led to eight COVID-19 people being infected by the defendant, and one person died on August 7, 2021. It should also be taken into account the fact that the defendant fully pleaded guilty. Le Van Tri is sentenced to 5 years in prison, the court report says. |
After the number of cases in 2020 was insignificant. As of September 7, 2021, Vietnam is dealing with the most serious outbreak of COVID-19. About 540 thousand cases of infection and more than 13 thousand deaths were recorded. The vast majority of infections and deaths have been recorded since the end of April 2021, and the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, and the Ho Chi Minh City shopping center have been strictly banned since early June 2021.
Previously, several people were convicted of spreading COVID-19 in early May 2021 in Vietnam. In July, a 32-year-old man from High Duong was sentenced to 18 months in prison, and a Vietnam Airlines stewardess was sentenced to two years in prison on the same charge in March 2021.[1]
