2022: Back pain sufferer shoots his surgeon and three others
On June 1, 2022, patient Michael Lewis shot and killed an orthopedic surgeon operating on him and three other medical workers in Tulsa, after which he committed suicide. Police said the gunman repeatedly called the clinic complaining of pain and left a suicide note promising to kill his doctor and anyone in his way.
U.S. authorities said Lewis was released from the hospital on May 24, 2022, five days after the operation. After discharge, Michael Louis called the doctor several times over several days, complaining of back pain and wanting more treatment, the police chief said.
