2025: Establishment of a criminal case on embezzlement of ₽1,3 million

A criminal case on embezzlement of ₽1,3 million was initiated against the former rector of the Northern State Medical University. The investigating authorities initiated proceedings on June 23, 2025 in Arkhangelsk, suspecting the ex-head of embezzlement of budget funds belonging to the educational organization.

As TASS reported with reference to law enforcement agencies, we are talking about the former rector of the Northern State Medical University Liubov Gorbatova. The Investigation Department Investigative Committee Russia Arkhangelsk region Nenets Autonomous Okrug for and accepted a criminal case initiated by the Russian MIA Administration for the Arkhangelsk Region. The suspect is charged with a crime under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code - misappropriation and embezzlement committed by a person using his official position on an especially large scale.

The investigation established that from December 2023 to January 2024, the suspect committed theft of funds from the institution. The stolen money was used to pay for the services of a lawyer providing legal assistance in a previously opened criminal case. Thus, the suspect avoided spending personal money and employee funds.

According to the agency, the criminal case was initiated on the basis of materials submitted by the Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Arkhangelsk Region. A preliminary investigation is underway in the case.
