2022: Recovery of 3 million rubles from the maternity hospital where Elena Machkalyan died

At the end of August 2022, the Volga City Court of the Volgograd Region ruled to reimburse the family of Aram Machkalyan, who lost his spouse during childbirth in the perinatal center No. 1 in 2017.

Elena Machkalyan arrived at the perinatal center No. 1 named after L.I. Ushakova in Volzhsky with ARVI. The head of the obstetric department Natalia Andreeva and the deputy head physician for the medical department Elena Popova, despite the threat of premature birth, sent the patient to the city hospital No. 2. During the transportation and hospital stay, Machkalyan's condition deteriorated and she was transferred back to the perinatal center.

For the death of a woman in labor, the court recovered 3 million rubles from the maternity hospital in the Volgograd region

Then Andreeva and Popova decided to take natural childbirth from the patient. However, during the delivery, she began to bleed, and doctors urgently performed a cesarean section. It was not possible to save the child, and the woman in labor fell into a coma from abundant blood loss. After a while, the woman died.

According to the joint press service of the courts of the Volgograd region at the end of August 2022, in favor of the spouse of the deceased in the perinatal center of the Volga woman in labor, 1 million rubles of compensation and 40 thousand rubles were collected as burial costs.

Her minor daughter will also pay 1 million and another 208,788 rubles in compensation for damage in connection with the death of the breadwinner in the 3 years preceding the decision. In addition, the girl will receive 5799 rubles a month until she reaches the age of 18, and each of the parents will be paid 500 thousand.

Elena Popova and Natalia Andreeva were found guilty of the death of the patient. Health workers were charged under Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (performance of work or provision of services that do not meet safety requirements). They received two years in prison.[1]
