On December 17, 2025, the Izmailovsky District Court of Moscow issued a verdict against the former chairman of the board of Vega Bank Mikhail Meshkov. He received seven years in prison in the case of embezzlement of more than 150 million rubles from a credit institution.

According to the state corporation "Deposit Insurance Agency" (DIA), the money was withdrawn from Vega Bank under the guise of lending to legal entities. In total, over 156 million rubles were stolen with the participation of Meshkov. The lawsuit filed by the DIA in the interests of the bank has been submitted for consideration in civil proceedings.

In December 2016, the Bank of Russia revoked the banking license from Vega Bank. The regulator said in a statement that this credit institution, in case of unsatisfactory asset quality, inadequately assessed the accepted risks. In addition, the bank did not comply with the requirements of the legislation and regulations of the Central Bank in the field of countering the legalization (laundering) of proceeds from crime and the financing of terrorism in terms of timely and high-quality submission of information to the authorized body.

It was also alleged that Vega Bank was involved in dubious transactions. The management and owners of the credit institution did not take effective measures to normalize its activities.

By a decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court of March 1, 2017, Vega Bank was declared insolvent (bankrupt) and bankruptcy proceedings were opened against it. The functions of the bankruptcy trustee are assigned to the DIA. And in December 2019, as reported on the DIA website, an application was filed with the court to prosecute Mikhail Meshkov and other persons in order to compensate for losses in the total amount of 676.91 million rubles.[1]
