2014
Mikhalchevsky headed the Ministry of Health of the Crimea short time – since the end of February to the middle of June, 2014 – in the first ambassador of accession of the peninsula to the Russian Federation the Russian government the region. He was dismissed from the minister's post because of numerous violations (in particular, collection by hospitals of a payment for treatment under the guise of charitable contributions and actually plundering of the humanitarian aid coming to the region). After resignation Mikhalchevsky moved to Kiev.
2018: Arrest
The ex-Minister of Health of the Crimea Pyotr Mikhalchevsky was arrested in Ukraine in January, 2018. He was accused of high treason and to infringement of territorial integrity of the country. The former official rejected all charges and said that he did not participate in a referendum on annexation of the Crimea to Russia which took place on March 15, 2014.
2020: 10 years of prison for treason
On July 13, 2020 the Dnieper district court Kiev found Pyotr Mikhalchevsky guilty of treason and sentenced the former Minister of Health of the Crimea to 10 years of prison. About it the lawyer of the defendant Valentin Rybin wrote on the page on Facebook.
According to Interfax, prosecutor's office asked to sentence the former head of the Ministry of Health of the Crimea to 13 years of imprisonment. Protection insisted on complete innocence of Mikhalchevsky, referring to incompetence of his acts according to the Geneva Convention of 1949 on protection of the civilian population during armed conflicts. Before announcement of the court verdict Mikhalchevsky was under house arrest, and before within one and a half years it was held in custody in the pre-trial detention center.[1]
