2023: Sentence - 8 years in prison for stealing 5 million rubles when selling cryptocurrency
In December 2023, the Kirovsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Araik Mirzakhanyan to eight years in prison for stealing money when selling cryptocurrency. He was found guilty under paragraph "b" of Part 4 of Art. 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery, that is, an attack in order to steal someone else's property, committed with the threat of violence dangerous to life and health, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, with the use of objects used as weapons, on an especially large scale).
According to the press service of the court, in August 2022, Mirzakhanyan, together with an accomplice (against whom a separate criminal case is being conducted), participated in a transaction to sell cryptocurrency in an office in Rostov-on-Don. They waited until the victim (buyer) put money in the amount of 5 million rubles on the table, and with the threat of using a pistol, they stole this money, after which they fled, the court said. Mirzakhanyan will serve his sentence in a maximum security penal colony. He did not admit his guilt.[1]
