2024: Elected President of Namibia
From November 27 to 30, general elections were held in the South African country of Namibia. According to the results of the vote, the majority of votes went to the ruling party since independence SWAPO (People's Organization of South-West Africa).
For the first time, a woman became the president of Namibia: Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa won the election. She will succeed Nangolo Mbumba.
According to the electoral commission of Namibia, 57% of those who took part in the vote voted for Nandi-Ndaitwa. 15 candidates participated in the elections. To win the first round, it was necessary to get more than half of the votes plus one vote.
The elections were delayed for 3 days due to a shortage of ballots, the untimely arrival of mobile groups at the polling stations and a malfunction of identity verification devices. The delay in the election process provoked a reaction from the opposition, which did not recognize the election results and promised to challenge them in court.
Against the background of the general drop in SWAPO ratings, non-recognition of the results is not unusual. Colossal youth unemployment and high levels of inequality have not spared Namibia.
At the same time, the ruling party managed to maintain the primacy due to the efforts of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitva herself, who, unlike the co-parties, was not involved in corruption scandals and other intrigues.
