2025: Detention on charges of taking bribes worth 17 million rubles

On February 27, 2025, the Investigation Department Investigative Committee RUSSIAN FEDERATION announced the Ryazan region detention of the former deputy chairman of the regional government, Artem Nikitin. He is suspected of receiving a multi-million dollar bribe.

According to the investigation, the official demanded a bribe from an individual entrepreneur for facilitating the conclusion of contracts with supervised organizations. In particular, for illegal remuneration, the suspect provided information about the conditions of upcoming purchases, and also provided other assistance, which allowed the entrepreneur to gain an advantage over competitors and win auctions.

According to the Investigation Department, in total, the entrepreneur transferred more than 17 million rubles to Nikitin. The case was initiated under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - taking bribes on an especially large scale. Such acts are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 8 to 15 years with a fine of up to 70 times the amount of a bribe or without it and with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to 15 years or without it.

In a criminal case, investigative and other procedural actions are carried out aimed at collecting and consolidating evidence, the issue of choosing a preventive measure against the suspect is being decided. Employees of the central office of the FSB of Russia and the FSB of Russia in the Ryazan region take part in operational activities.

At the same time, Nikitin resigned as deputy head of the government of the Ryazan region of his own free will on February 26, 2025. In his post, he oversaw the work of the regional Ministry of Digital Development, Information Technology and Communications, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, the Investment and Tourism Committee, the Ministry of Culture, etc.[2]
