2021: Ballet NFT Token Issue

At the end of November 2021, videos of performances by the prima ballerina of the London Royal Ballet Natalia Osipova were put up for auction at the Bonhams auction house in the form of NFT tokens. The collection was called "Natalya Osipova: triptych."

According to The Guardian, the virtual collection included two scenes from the second act of the ballet Giselle, which were staged specifically for subsequent sale, as well as a recording from the modern production of Left Behind, made by Osipova in 2019 in Mexico with her husband Jason Kittelberger.

Natalya Osipova noted that the idea for creating NFT was born during the quarantine associated with COVID-19. Due to the lack of the opportunity to perform, the artist felt lost, so she decided to explore new ways of connecting with the audience through digital channels. The Russian woman said that she was "excited, but a little nervous" when entering the world of NFT and cryptocurrencies, but she likes to take risks.

She added:

NFT has shaken the art world, especially over the past year, and I realized that they can also expand the appeal and reach of ballet.

Osipova and Kittelberger said that their enterprise was an "adventure," since the market for ballet NFTs was unknown. Two short NFT Giselle scenes are expected to sell at between $10,600 and $16,000 each, and the full NFT Left Behind version is expected to cost between $40,000 and $67,000.

Bonhams head of digital art Nima Sagarchi said the auction house is proud to be a pioneer in the NFT field. Bonhams sold the first works of digital art creators and the collection card of Cristian Ronaldo, now the house will open the world to ballet. According to Bonhams, the results of the auction will be announced on December 10, 2021.^[1]
