Paul Maritts (Paul Maritz, 1955) is the main strategist of EMC. Till September, 2012 CEO VMware Corporation. Earlier - the third figure in Microsoft corporation.

Biography

Was born and grew in Zimbabwe, then his family moved to South Africa. Received degree of the bachelor of computer sciences of the University Natal and also equal degree at the University of Cape Town.

After the end of training, Moritz worked as the programmer, and then received the place of the researcher at the University Saint Enyuryus, Scotland.

In 1981 he moved to Silicon Valley, having become the employee of Intel. On corporation he worked 5 years, having taken part in development of a number of key projects, such as, for example, x86 platforms.

1986-2000: Microsoft

In 1986 Maritts passes in Microsoft and works in the company up to 2000, having served to a position of the vice president for platform strategy, i.e. becomes one of five key figures in corporation. Often it was put on the third place on extent of influence after directly Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. He was responsible for one and all software of the company for desktops and servers, including such key developments at that time as Windows 95, to Windows NT and Internet Explorer.

Then he based and headed Pi Corporation company which was sold by EMC in February, 2008. Then Maritts headed a division of the company on cloud developments, and then on July 8, 2008 became the CEO of all corporation.

2008-2012: Head of VMware

Paul Maritz joined VMware company in 2008.

Till September, 2012, in four years of government of Maritts in VMware scales of business of the company significantly grew. In 2008 about 25% of all applications in the world for the Intel platform worked in the virtualized environments, and on the middle of 2012 this digit grew to 60%. The number of the certified specialists in VMware for the same period increased from 25 to 125 thousand.

On July 16, 2012 it became known that Paul Maritz, the chief executive officer of VMware, delegated the powers Pat Gelsinger, to the president and the chief operating officer of EMC which purchased VMware in 2004.

Whether Moritz will leave VMware or will take other position in the company, was not specified[1].

The reasons of leaving of Moritz are not reported.
