Biography
1991-2005
Kairat Satybaldy worked for many years in the special services - he was in officer positions in the National Security Service from 1991 to 1998, after which he was deputy mayor of Astana (1998-2000) and vice president of the national company Kazakh Oil (2000-2003), and then again worked in the National Security Service, where he held senior positions from 2003 to 2005.

In mid-March 2022, the court arrested Kairat Satybaldyuly (nephew of the first president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev), who is accused of embezzlement of funds belonging to the country's largest telecom company Kazakhtelecom.
On March 15, the specialized interdistrict investigative court of the city of Nur-Sultan authorized a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of two months against the suspect Kairat Satybaldyuly, - said in a statement published on the court's website. |
He was placed in a temporary detention center. The nephew of the former president of Kazakhstan was detained at the Almaty airport during an attempt to go to Dubai, Olzhas Bektenov said.
Earlier in March 2022, the anti-corruption service of Kazakhstan announced the detention of Satybaldyuly on suspicion of abuse of office and theft of funds of Kazakhtelecom JSC on an especially large scale. The investigation also tested him for his attitude to "other crimes that undermine the security of the state."
Kairat Satybaldy is the son of Satybalda Nazarbayev - the brother of the first president of Kazakhstan. Satybaldy Nazarbayev tragically died in an accident in 1981. Kairat Satybalda's mother, Svetlana Nazarbayeva, is the general director of the Dәuіr publishing house. The younger brother of Kairat Satybalda - Samat Abish - after the tragic events of early January was dismissed from the post of First Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee (NSC) of Kazakhstan.[1]
Court sentence - 6 years in prison in the case of embezzlement of money from Kazakhtelecom
At the end of September 2022, a guilty verdict was passed against the nephew of the ex-president of the country of Kazakhstan Nurslatan Nazarbayev Kairat Satybaldyuly in the case of embezzlement of funds from the national telecom operator Kazakhtelecom JSC.

At the same time, Kazakhtelecom asked the court not to consider the claim against Satybaldyuly and other defendants, since Nazarbayev's nephew paid all the damage. Earlier, the defendants and Kazakhtelecom entered into mediative agreements. For this reason, the defendants did not testify in court, and the case was considered in court in an abbreviated manner.
In relation to Kairat Satybaldyuly, by the end of September 2022, criminal cases of tax evasion and customs payments, as well as legalization of criminal proceeds, are additionally being investigated.[2]
2024: Seizure of $98.6 million in the case of embezzlement of Kazakhtelecom funds
Law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan seized 44.6 billion tenge ($98.6 million) from Kairat Satybaldyuly, nephew of the first president of the republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev, in the case of illegally withdrawn assets against. Nazarbayev's nephew was sentenced to six years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions. He pleaded guilty and compensated the CTS and Kazakhtelecom companies for the damage, which became a mitigating circumstance.[3]
