2025: Arrest in bribe case from drugmaker Jodas Expoim
At the end of May 2025, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court chose a measure of restraint for the head of the department for amending and confirming the registration of medicines of the Department for Regulating Appeals of Medicines and Medical Devices of the Ministry of Health of Russia Alexei Sazonov in the case of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. He and General Director of Jodas Expoim LLC Parsad Singh Shashi Shankar were arrested.
According to Pharmaceutical Bulletin, Parsad Singh Shashi Shankar, General Director of Jodas Expoim LLC, and two employees of the Ministry of Health were detained on May 26, 2025 at the company's office on suspicion of giving a bribe. The businessman wanted to agree that the regulator would not cancel the registration of drugs.
Employees of the department were later released on recognizance not to leave, and the businessman was placed in a temporary detention center. Details of the case were provided by a source close to the inquest, speaking on condition of anonymity. The information was confirmed by two more sources.
In January 2025, the Ministry of Health canceled the registration of the drug Biapenem, which Jodas Expoim received on November 21, 2023. The decision was made in pursuance of a court order, which experts call precedent.
The registration of the drug was disputed by the Indian company Kopran Rizech Laboratories Limited, which Jodas Expoim indicated as the manufacturer of pharmaceutical substances at the biapenem registration stage. There were no agreements on this between the companies.
The package of documents contained a letter from "Kopran," which, as the court later found out, was forged. In November 2023, the drug was registered. A year and two months later, the corresponding entry was excluded from the State Register of Medicines at the request of the court.
In March 2025, Roszdravnadzor identified falsified drugs accompanied by false information about the manufacturer. It was about six drugs, on the secondary packaging of which the company "Jodas Expoim Pvt" is indicated as the manufacturer. Ltd. "from India.
Soon after, it became known about the detention of the general director of Jodas Expoim and his wife.[1]
