2025: Arrest on charges of taking bribes
On May 15, 2025, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court rejected the appeal of the defense of the former deputy head of the Sverdlovsk "Electronic Government Operator" Sergei Lednev, who is accused of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. Thus, the official will continue to be in custody until June 14, 2025, according to the decision of the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg of April 18, 2025.
According to Vedomosti Ural, Sergei Lednev was charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Russia: taking a bribe on an especially large scale (paragraph "c" of part 5 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and abuse of office (part 1 of article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The defense of the accused filed an appeal, in which she insisted on changing the preventive measure.
During the trial, arguments from both the accused himself and his lawyer were heard. However, the representative of the prosecutor's office opposed the satisfaction of the complaint, justifying his position by the fact that the decision of the district court is legal and reasonable. Having considered all the submitted materials and after hearing the positions of the parties, the court of appeal decided to leave the decision of the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg unchanged.
The criminal case against the deputy head of the "Electronic Government Operator" attracted significant attention in the Sverdlovsk region, since it affects the sphere of digitalization of public services. The e-government operator is a key structure responsible for the development of digital services in the region and ensuring citizens' access to public services in electronic format.
Details of the criminal case, including the amount of the alleged bribe and specific circumstances of abuse of power, have not yet been disclosed in open sources. However, the article under which the charge is brought involves receiving a bribe on an especially large scale, which, according to Russian law, means an amount exceeding ₽1 million.[1]
