2025: Dismissal after healthy kidney removal in the patient
Chief physician Buryat Republican Clinical Oncological Dispensary Inessa Shagdurova left her post amid a scandal related to a medical error in the institution. As a result of confusion with the examination data of two patients, one of them removed a healthy kidney. The head of the medical institution considered it her moral duty to resign. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic and Minister health care Buryatia Evgenia Ludupova in her Telegram channel in early October 2025.
Together with the chief physician, an X-ray laboratory assistant of the oncology dispensary was fired. Other medical professionals involved in the error were disciplined. The final decision in the case will be made by the court. Personnel changes occurred after the identification of serious violations in the work of the medical institution. Several employees of the dispensary are responsible for the incident.
The Investigation Department Investigative Committee Russia for Buryatia checked the circumstances of the incident. Investigators identified violations related to incorrect identification of patients. A criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 118 of the Criminal Code of Russia. The article provides for punishment for causing grievous bodily harm by negligence due to improper performance of professional duties. The investigation will identify specific perpetrators of the medical error.
Evgenia Ludupova apologized to the patient and her loved ones on behalf of the entire medical community of the republic. According to the minister, she has already contacted the injured woman. The Ministry of Health of Buryatia will provide full medical supervision and treatment at all stages. Contact with the patient will be maintained constantly.
