2021:22 months in prison for performing plastic surgery without a license

In March 2021, the Simonovsky Court of Moscow sentenced Gulnara Shah to 22 months in a penal colony for having performed plastic surgeon operations in a clinic owned by her in Moscow without a corresponding license.

The criminal case was opened after doctors mutilated Karolina Sargisyan in 2018. After the rhinoplasty operation, the patient of the clinic Gulnara Shah fell into a coma, in addition, she was found to have a fracture in the bones of the skull. Only three days later, an ambulance was called to the 25-year-old patient. In serious condition, she was taken to one of the capital's hospitals, where qualified doctors saved her life.

The Shah was found guilty under subsection "a," "in" part 2 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code (the provision of services that do not meet the requirements of safety of life or health of consumers, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in negligence causing grievous harm to human health).

Compensation for non-pecuniary damage in the amount of 500 thousand rubles was recovered from her. Prior to this, she voluntarily paid the victim 500 thousand rubles.

Anesthesiologist Lev Khitrin, who worked with Shah, is on his own recognizance by March 2021. The investigation found out that he had previously worked in another Moscow clinic, where three patients died after unsuccessful operations.

Another person involved, surgeon Gevorg Stepanyan, was poisoned from the pre-trial detention center on his own recognizance, being under which he fled the country. By March 2021, he is on the international wanted list.

It was established that Shah, being the sole founder of the commercial center for reconstructive surgery, reliably knowing that the clinic headed by her did not have a license to provide medical services according to the "plastic surgery" profile, conspired with a plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist-resuscitator, who agreed to carry out plastic operations for a monetary fee, - quotes the TASS head of the press service of the metropolitan prosecutor's office Lyudmila Nefedova.[1]months in prison
