Career

2002-2014

Since 2003, he worked in the banking sector. In 2006-2008 he worked in the financial department of the regional office, the project management department, the operational and technological department, sales management of the investment bank Citi (Great Britain, Czech Republic).

In 2008-2014 - senior analyst, assistant vice president, vice president of the regional division for work in the stock market of Citi investment bank. In 2014-2015 - Vice President of the Regional Strategic Planning and Analysis Group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa of Citi Bank.

2015-2020

In 2015-2017, Sharlapayev worked as Chief Financial Officer, Deputy Chairman of the Board, Senior Vice President of Citibank Kazakhstan. In 2017-2020 - Chief Financial Officer of the same bank for Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, Senior Vice President of Citibank Russia.

From 2020 until his appointment to the state holding company, he has been the Regional Director for Strategy, Planning and Analysis in Emerging Markets in Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe of Citi Investment Bank (UAE).

2022

In February 2022, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of National Managing Holding Baiterek JSC.

2023: Appointment as Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan

In early September 2023, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed an order appointing Kanat Sharlapayev as head of the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic. This department was created in September 2023 with the transfer of functions and powers to it in the fields of industry and industrial development; industry; mining and metallurgical complex; development of intra-country value; mechanical engineering; coal, chemical, light (except for processing skins and wool of farm animals), woodworking and furniture industry; construction industry and production of building materials; safety of machinery and equipment; safety of chemical products in accordance with the industry focus; control of specific goods.[1]
