2019: A sentence for cryptocurrency mining in a workplace
On October 16 the Sarov city court sentenced to probation and a penalty of the employee of the All-Russian Research Institute of experimental physics (VNIIEF) Andrey Shatokhin, reported TAdviser in the press service of court. In 2018 it together with two colleagues was delayed for attempt of mining of bitcoins in a workplace (the hidden mining).
According to information on the website of court, Shatokhin was incriminated by four crimes under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: illegal access to computer information using official position (Article 272), abuse of regulations of storage of computer information (Article 274), use and distribution of computer viruses (Article 273).
The press service of the Sarov city court reported to TAdviser that in total on three incriminated crimes to Andrey Shatokhin 4 years of imprisonment conditionally with a probation period, and on one crime - a penalty in the amount of 250 thousand rubles are appointed. The sentence did not take legal effect yet.
Andrey Shatokhin was an employee of the nuclear center of Institute of theoretical and mathematical physics (ITMF) which is a part. In addition to it two more employees of ITMF - Andrey Rybkin and Denis Baykov became persons involved within this case.
The sentence was pronounced to Baykov on September 17. The court is fined it 450 thousand and 300 thousand rubles under two articles. Follows from the sentence published on the website of the Sarov city court that in May, 2017 defendants in the case agreed about use of computing powers of not used computer hardware and the local computer network intended for processing of confidential information, for cryptocurrency mining and its subsequent address in own favor which is in ITMF contrary to the office interests of VNIIEF.
Having collected for these purposes the calculator (farm) from the servers belonging to the center employees within several weeks, mainly at night, started on it cryptocurrency mining process, and divided the got profit among themselves.
Case against Rybkin as of the middle of October is still considered by court.
